Family Run

Steve & his son

If you're in Aylestone, chances are you're either in one of the Victorian terraces running down towards the canal, or a newer place further out near the meadows. Either way, older properties round here tend to have their own quirks when it comes to plumbing and heating, tight airing cupboards, boilers tucked into odd corners, pipework that's been added to and altered over the years. Steve and his son know this patch well and have sorted everything from noisy combi boilers in terrace houses to blocked drains backing up after heavy rain near the meadows. We're Gas Safe registered, rated 10/10 on Checkatrade from 131 reviews, and hold a full 5.0 stars on Google. As a family-run father-and-son team, we turn up when we say we will, explain what's actually wrong in plain English, and get it fixed properly first time. Whether it's a boiler service, a full system swap, or a leak you can't get to the bottom of, give us a call and we'll come and have a look.

Aylestone homes and common issues

Aylestone's a real mixed bag once you get off the main road. You've got the older terraces down near the river and the cricket ground, a lot of them Victorian and Edwardian brick with the original chimney breasts still in place even where the fires have long gone, plus post-war semis further out towards Aylestone Park and the meadows. Then there's the newer estates that went up on the old industrial land near Cavendish House and Blaby Road, mostly 90s and 2000s builds with combi boilers as standard. On the older terraces we still find gravity fed systems and back boilers now and again, tucked in a bedroom cupboard or under the stairs, and plenty of homes that have been converted to combi over the years without anyone updating the pipework properly.

  • Older terraces near the river with original cast iron or lead pipework that's prone to leaks and low pressure once it starts to corrode
  • Converted lofts and extensions on the semis where radiators were added but the boiler was never sized up, leaving the system struggling to heat the whole house evenly
  • Combi boilers on the newer estates losing pressure or cutting out, usually down to a small leak somewhere in the system or a faulty expansion vessel
  • Hard water scale build up in older properties' pipework and cylinders, which wears out valves and immersion heaters faster than it should

Aylestone - frequently asked questions

Do you cover Aylestone for boiler repairs and servicing?
Yes, Aylestone is well within our regular working area. We're out this way often, from the streets near the canal to the newer housing further towards the meadows, so we know the sort of setups you tend to get round here.
My boiler keeps losing pressure, can you sort that?
Usually, yes. It's a common one, especially in older systems, and it's normally down to a small leak somewhere or a faulty valve. We'll track down the actual cause rather than just topping the pressure up and sending you on your way.
I've got a blocked drain outside my house, is that something you deal with?
Yes, blocked pipes and drains are a big part of what we do. A lot of the older terraces in Aylestone have drainage that's been patched up over the years, so we're used to working out exactly where the blockage is and clearing it properly.
Can you fit a new boiler in an older Victorian terrace?
Definitely. We install and service all major boiler brands, and terrace properties like the ones near the canal often need a bit more thought around flue routing and pipework, which is exactly the kind of job we're used to.
How quickly can you get to Aylestone if I've got a leak?
We always aim to get to genuine leaks and emergencies as fast as we reasonably can. Give us a call and we'll tell you honestly how soon we can be with you, we don't like leaving people with water running where it shouldn't be.
Do you do annual boiler servicing?
Yes, and it's worth doing every year regardless of the boiler's age. A proper service catches small issues before they turn into breakdowns, and it keeps your warranty and Gas Safe records in order.
What if my radiators aren't heating up evenly?
That's often trapped air or sludge build-up in the system, both common in homes with older pipework. We'll bleed and check the system properly, and if it's a bigger sludge issue we can talk you through a power flush.
Can you help with a full central heating upgrade?
Yes, from swapping an old boiler for a newer, more efficient one to sorting out pipework and radiators that have been added to over the years. We'll have a look at what you've got and give you straight advice on what actually needs doing.
Do you fix low water pressure from the taps?
We do. It can be down to a few different things, from the mains supply to something inside the system itself, and it's common in older Aylestone properties where pipework hasn't been updated in a while. We'll get to the bottom of it.
Are you Gas Safe registered and properly qualified?
Yes, fully Gas Safe registered, and you're welcome to ask to see the card when we arrive. We're also rated 10/10 on Checkatrade from 131 reviews and hold 5.0 stars on Google, so you can check we do what we say before you even book us.
